Earl grey is an Indie Band from Lennox, California. They are a four piece band with Axel (Drum), Enrique (Guitar), Kevin (Vocal/Guitar), Manny (Pianist) and Marco (Bass Guitar). They began writing music when Marco asked Kevin to come over and jam out. After recording a Demo they asked Kiké to join their Jelly Jams. Axel came in when he cheated on his other band and had started having an affair with them. Manny joined the band and helped recording their EP, “He added some jelly to our jam and joined officially around October of 2018”. Their music is influenced by depression and their own experiences, writing helps them cope. The meaning to their music is Past life, Heartbreaks, and anything that has impacted their lives.
Now a little background from these dudes, Axel apparently came out of the womb playing metal (I imagined a small baby with long black hair and painted black fingernails I don’t know). He then started exploring into the indie/alternative music. He also does photography follow his instagram! @casanegra.films, “Film otaku is life”. Kevin is laid back and not too outspoken. He loves Folk Music and believes in being nice/genuine and to treat everyone they way you’d like to be treated. Marco first wanted to play drums, “but I suck so bass is the closest thing (being laughed at by Axel)”. Bass stood out to him whenever he listened to Caifanes & Maná, he wanted to pursue it. If the music is sad/emotional he’ll usually go for that first (same). P.s. He's in search to find the perfect burger and it has to have cheese (I recommend Monty's Good burger). Manny is your regular latino who grew up in Los Angeles, Ca “Horchata is really good”. He wants to give a little shout out to his day ones and everyone along the way, FunFair, Amoeba Boys, Bad Abstract, Indy De Los Santos ❣ , The Reefs, CasaNegraFilms, Light Paranoia, DollKlaw, DayLake, Our Best Friends, Peace Art, SAD LOCALS (ayeee ♥), KDVS (La Groovy), “The list can go on, so much homie-ffection is real)” anyone who invited them to shows and everyone who has took their time to listen to their music. “ KEEP SUPPORTING YOUR FRIENDS AND HELP THEM ACHIEVE THEIR DREAMS”.
I interviewed some fans and this what they had to say about Earl Grey. “I first saw Earl Grey live at a warehouse Halloween show. I originally went to see Amoeba Boys and I think they were next in the Lineup. The song that resonated with me the most that night was “You Ain't Right” because of the lyrics, mainly the harmonica and guitar was everything! Such a sad boy song. I ended up seeing them almost all of October because of all the Halloween Shows they had alongside with Amoeba Boys. The scene was so welcoming and I ended up meeting the band mates and made a few friends. They’ve been a favorite ever since. I’ve been trying to attend as many shows as i can, it's difficult since i live far but I’d drive all kinds of distance just to see them live again.” said Joyce (@joyce_j). Another person I interviewed was Izzy (@queerpunkfilipinx) and here's what she had to say “I met Earl Grey after one of my friends linked me to them for my senior project, and they turned out to be super chill and cooperative to work with. We produced and recorded our versions of their songs over a few months and their music really grew on me. Not just because I was stuck in a room listening to it on repeat for a whole semester haha. Its cool because I think their personalities are mirrored in their songs, super chill and down to earth. It's great being at their live shows too, they look like they have a lot of fun performing and the crowd really resonates with that energy. I get a little nostalgic because those duded helped me graduate so it's a pretty good mix of feelings. I'll always be grateful for their help”. I recently just showed my cousin and her best friend Earl Grey after attending a concert and this is what they had to say, “They are really good I liked their flow a lot!” said Jazmine (@jazminemonroy). “THEY WERE REALLY GOOD, I liked it a lot” Said Natalie (@natalieisgod)
Earl Grey is the type of music to listen to when you’re feeling like a sad bean, which is me everyday. I was actually currently listening to them as I wrote this blog and its raining right now and just wow does this music go so well on a rainy day. Also car rides with the windows down, blasting “Weary” while you scream your lungs out is 10/10 recommend it. Check their music out on Soundcloud, and Spotify you won't regret it. Also HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT Early Grey is releasing a video for their one year anniversary for the release of “Wallflower” on April 14! Here is the link to the preview https://youtu.be/J7pJT0E go check it out and also keep updated on their instagram to see when the video is up @earlgrey.ca !
